falling flowers ii

-
An experimental study of botanical forms through unconventional lenses and 35mm film, this series explores the beauty of nature through unique perspectives. By employing a variety of experimental lenses, the work captures flowers in various states of bloom and decay, creating distinctive distortions that challenge viewer perception and present familiar subjects in unexpected ways. The series serves as a testament to the fleeting moments of life, focusing on transformation at the micro level.

The series employs a hybrid approach to experimental film photography, utilizing both Kodak Gold 200 for its warm color rendition and Revolog Rasp for its unique chemical distortions that create organic, raspberry-colored light leaks. Central to the process is the Lensbaby Composer Pro II with Sweet 50 optic, whose distinctive selective focus mechanism creates a controlled sweet spot of sharpness at f/2.5 that gradually dissolves into ethereal blur. Through precise manipulation of the lens's ball and socket system, each image's focal plane is intentionally positioned to guide viewer attention across dried bouquets and scattered petals, whether framed against interior architectural elements or natural outdoor settings.
